Thousands Flee Kordofan Fighting for Relative Safety of El Obeid

Over 5,000 families have arrived in El Obeid in just one week, fleeing intensified fighting between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces in the Kordofan region.

Al Jazeera’s Almigdad Alruhaid reported from the North Kordofan capital, where the new arrivals are seeking refuge from the escalating violence.

Tens of thousands of people have been displaced across the wider Kordofan region as clashes between the armed forces and the paramilitary group continue.

The city has become a relatively safer haven for residents escaping the conflict, which has uprooted entire communities in recent days.

The continuing displacement in Kordofan shows how the intensifying conflict is forcing more civilians to leave their homes in search of safety.
