Vilnius corgi race: from friendly bet to canine carnival

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, has been billed as the ‘European corgi capital.’ The title is reinforced by Corgi Race Vilnius, an event that began as a friendly bet between two owners during the pandemic and has since grown to feature sprint heats, a costume parade, and a loudest bark contest.

The race’s origins trace back to a challenge between two corgi owners during the pandemic. That friendly wager has since evolved into a broader gathering. In addition to sprint heats, the program now includes a costume parade, a loudest bark contest, and newly added agility and ‘run and return’ races.

Corgi Race Vilnius has expanded well beyond its pandemic beginnings, adding new competitions like agility and ‘run and return’ while keeping the playful spirit of the original bet alive.
