Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala collapsed during Saturday’s pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena, in a worrying moment that ultimately ended with the player walking off the pitch. With temperatures reaching 33 degrees, the heat appeared to affect him shortly after he scored Bayern’s third goal.
According to the Daily Express, the collapse happened in the closing stages of the match. Musiala, who had entered the game as a second-half substitute, had just put Bayern ahead with their third goal when he began to show signs of unsteadiness. Teammate Saibari noticed immediately and rushed to support him.
Saibari and Joshua Kimmich worked together to catch Musiala as he fell, easing him gently to the ground. Medical staff quickly arrived on the scene, and teammates circled around. A medic soon signaled a thumbs up to the bench, which served as a positive indication. Musiala was then able to get up and walk off the field with the Bayern medical team, with Bara Sapoko Ndiaye coming on as his replacement.
The game also provided a memorable introduction to Bayern for Saibari, who was making his debut for the club following his summer move from PSV Eindhoven. He had linked up with Bayern after representing Morocco at the World Cup in North America this summer.
Bayern emerged with a 3-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Luis Diaz, Nathaniel Brown, and Musiala. Saibari set up Musiala’s goal, capping a notable first appearance.
In the mixed zone after the final whistle, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl addressed the incident, saying: “The most important thing, he’s doing well!”
The reassuring update from Eberl brought relief to Bayern supporters after a worrying few minutes on the pitch.
