Manchester United back in Champions League: fixtures, squad rules and final date

Manchester United are competing in the Champions League again after two seasons away, and their 2026/27 campaign is already under way. A third place finish last season ended the club’s time outside Europe’s top club competition, while the team has won the European Cup three times. Their most recent European campaign ended in a final defeat to Tottenham in the 2024/25 Europa League decider.

United’s league phase start and opponents

United opened their league phase with a 4-0 home victory over Sabah, the Azerbaijan Premier League side. The schedule also includes two meetings apiece with opponents from Italy, Germany and Spain, as well as a fixture against Portuguese giants Sporting.

The league phase table and full fixture list are being tracked as the competition progresses. The knockout phase begins with playoff ties in February, when teams compete for a place in the round of 16.

United’s league phase squad includes List B players marked with an asterisk. List B covers players born after January 1, 2005 who have been eligible to play for the club for an uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday. Additions to the List B group can be made until midnight before each match. UEFA’s updated List A squads are also available.

The 2026/27 Champions League final will be held on June 5 2027 at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid. The stadium has been Atletico Madrid’s home since 2017.
