Leeds United have agreed an £8.5m deal to bring Switzerland international Nico Elvedi to Elland Road, with the 29 year old travelling to England for a medical on Monday.
Borussia Monchengladbach have accepted an offer worth an initial £6.8m, with a further £1.7m available in add ons. Elvedi has been with the Bundesliga club for 11 years, making 364 appearances in all competitions, 17 of which came in the Champions League.
The versatile centre back has also earned 73 caps for Switzerland and was part of the national squad at this summer’s World Cup, making him an experienced addition to Leeds’ defensive options.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke, speaking after his side’s 4-0 pre season friendly win over Augsburg, was cautious about confirming the deal. “I’ve been working in football long enough to know everything is only final once the medical checks are completed and all the paperwork is signed. We’ve seen situations like this before,” Farke said. “So I only speak about new players once they have been officially announced and everything is settled. But I don’t want to lie, and we expect something to happen in the next 48 hours.”
The move would allow fringe Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw to join Hamburg on an initial loan with an option to buy.
Leeds begin their Premier League campaign away to Nottingham Forest next Saturday.
