Johnson-Thompson grateful to still compete after injury disruption

British heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson says she is grateful just to be competing after injury hampered her training ahead of the European Championships.

The 33-year-old reflected on a heptathlon affected by that limited preparation. Even so, she spoke with clear affection for the event and underlined that her appetite for competition has not faded.

Johnson-Thompson added that she remains hungry to keep pushing herself at the highest level. Her comments follow a championships in which physical setbacks were an unavoidable part of her journey.

Her outlook suggests the British athlete is not ready to step away from the sport she loves, even as she manages the demands of injury and recovery.
