A drone attack has reportedly hit an oil tanker off the coast of Oman, sending thick columns of black smoke into the air above the Strait of Hormuz region and leaving two Indian sailors unaccounted for.
The vessel involved has been identified as the Petro Dolphin, an oil tanker that was reportedly targeted in the attack near Omani waters.
Footage of the aftermath showed plumes of black smoke rising from the ship, a visible sign of the damage sustained in the incident.
Two Indian sailors are missing following the strike, according to reports. No further details on the condition of the vessel or the rest of its crew were immediately available.
The Strait of Hormuz region sits along a route used by a substantial share of the world’s seaborne oil shipments, and incidents there draw close international attention.
Authorities have yet to issue a full account of what happened to the Petro Dolphin, and the circumstances surrounding the reported drone attack remain under scrutiny as the search for the two missing Indian sailors continues.
