Disney’s D23 fan convention returned with a packed slate of announcements Friday, offering looks at upcoming Marvel and Star Wars projects, as well as surprises for fans of Pixar, Bluey, and Kingdom Hearts. Here are the biggest reveals from the event.
Marvel: Avengers: Doomsday trailer, X-Men cast, and VisionQuest
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took the D23 stage with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell to debut the new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to hit theaters December 18. The film continues the MCU narrative following the favorable reception given to Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The studio also revealed the full cast for its upcoming X-Men movie, currently untitled and slated for May 5, 2028. Alongside Sadie Sink, who was earlier confirmed as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the cast includes Kit Connor as Scott Summers (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier (Professor X), Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Inde Navarrette as Rogue. Navarrette recently starred in the surprise hit Obsession. Adam Driver will play Nathaniel Milbury, better known as Mister Sinister, the film’s antagonist. Given the release date is several years away, a scheduling adjustment would not come as a shock.
VisionQuest, the Disney Plus series that premieres October 14, will close out the trilogy that began with WandaVision. The show follows the Vision as he works through questions of identity, has conversations with Ultron in human form, and searches for a potential son.
Star Wars: Ahsoka season two teaser and Starfighter sneak peek
Lucasfilm brought the first trailer for Ahsoka season two to D23, ahead of the show’s debut on January 20, 2027. The footage hints at a darker, more mystical corner of the galaxy, with Grand Admiral Thrawn, clad in blue skin and red eyes, threatening to drag the galaxy back into a war of enormous scale.
Ryan Gosling also appeared on stage to tease Star Wars: Starfighter, a film scheduled for May 28, 2027. The footage screened at the event was not released online, and some purported leaks have circulated on social media, though their legitimacy remains unverified. The movie also stars Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, and Mia Goth, in addition to Gosling.
Pixar, Bluey, and The Simpsons
Pixar offered a brief glimpse of its next feature, planned for March 2028. The story centers on a lunch shop on Oʻahu that serves lost spirits, along with a character named Kyle who finds himself swept into a supernatural adventure.
Bluey is set to make its big screen debut, but fans of the show’s charming 2D animation may be disappointed to learn that the film will instead use 3D computer animation. Given Disney’s habit of remaking animated classics, it would hardly be surprising if a live action adaptation eventually followed.
The Simpsons creator Matt Groening may have accidentally teased a return for the cult classic video game Hit & Run. When asked about a sequel, Groening said, “I think the original game is coming back in some form,” before showrunner Matt Selman added, “or not.” Groening’s tone and body language hinted that he might have shared more than intended. The game originally appeared in 2003 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Windows, but it has never been made available on modern consoles, nor does it appear in the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog or the Xbox backward compatibility list. A straightforward port is possible, though a full HD remaster, with the original voice acting intact, could be more appealing.
Kingdom Hearts brings news on multiple fronts
Square Enix teased Kingdom Hearts IV during a Nintendo Direct, confirming the game for Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC, though no release date was given. It will be the first entirely new entry in the series since Kingdom Hearts III in 2019.
The same presentation revealed that the first three Kingdom Hearts games will be bundled together for Switch 2, with an October 8 release date. A demo for Kingdom Hearts III is available now.
In addition, Square Enix and Disney Kids announced an anime series based on the Kingdom Hearts games, featuring a brand new storyline. Series creator Tetsuya Nomura is involved, but further details are sparse.
The Kingdom Hearts franchise will also have its own D23 session on Saturday, August 15 at 7:30 PM ET, celebrating 25 years of the series. According to the event description, attendees will “join us for a journey through light and darkness as we commemorate 25 years of KINGDOM HEARTS” and hear from the creative minds and voice actors behind the saga.
Between Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Bluey, and Kingdom Hearts, D23 gave fans plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
