Coventry City have agreed a permanent deal with Nottingham Forest for striker Taiwo Awoniyi, with the 29 year old Nigerian now undergoing a medical ahead of the move.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on X on Saturday, writing: “EXCLUSIVE: Coventry City agree deal to sign Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, here we go! 🇳🇬”
Romano added: “Club to club agreement done, permanent move and also understand medical is now ongoing. New striker for Frank Lampard.”
The 29 year old is now undergoing his medical ahead of completing the switch. Once finalised, Awoniyi will link up with his international teammate Frank Onyeka at Coventry, where he will play under manager Frank Lampard.
Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest from Bundesliga side Union Berlin in 2022. He struggled for regular playing time last season, registering four goals and one assist in 17 league appearances for the Tricky Trees. He has fallen behind Chris Wood and Igor Jesus in the pecking order at the City Ground.
The move to Coventry is expected to offer Awoniyi the opportunity to secure more regular playing time and revive his career.
The transfer marks a fresh chapter for Awoniyi, who will be eager to make the most of the increased playing time expected at Coventry.
