Championship Duo Chase Wrexham Goalkeeper Okonkwo

Arthur Okonkwo’s time at Wrexham could be nearing an end after two Championship clubs emerged as possible destinations for the Nigerian goalkeeper.

Arthur Okonkwo could be set for a Wrexham exit after two Championship sides registered interest in the goalkeeper. Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers have both been linked with a move for the Nigerian, who is 24.

Okonkwo’s place at Wrexham has become uncertain following the summer arrival of Anthony Patterson from Sunderland. Patterson is expected to become the club’s new first choice keeper, which could push Okonkwo to look for guaranteed minutes at another team.

Sports Illustrated reported that Okonkwo is expected to leave before the end of the current transfer window, with Charlton and Bolton among the clubs monitoring his situation.

The goalkeeper first joined Wrexham on loan from Arsenal in 2023 before completing a permanent switch. He has collected 108 league appearances for Wrexham across the last three campaigns, including 39 last season, and still has one year remaining on his contract. At international level, Okonkwo has earned two caps for Nigeria.

The next few weeks will show whether either Championship club can reach an agreement for Okonkwo, or whether the goalkeeper remains with Wrexham to fight for his position.
