Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to join Tottenham Hotspur before the summer transfer window closes. The claim comes from Dutch outlet Voetbal International, as relayed by Metro, and places the Netherlands international among Roberto De Zerbi’s leading attacking targets alongside Manchester City winger Savinho.
Gakpo moved to Anfield from PSV in a deal that could eventually be worth up to £45 million. Across 180 appearances for Liverpool over the past four years, he has scored 50 goals and played a part in Premier League and Carabao Cup successes.
According to the BBC, Liverpool are seeking a transfer fee in excess of £60 million for the forward and will not authorise his sale until a replacement has been signed. The same report says the club have held extensive talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a potential move for Bradley Barcola but are reluctant to meet the French club’s €150 million (£128 million) valuation.
In a separate development, reports from Brazil on Thursday suggested Tottenham have lodged an £85 million bid with Manchester City for Savinho. The 22-year-old winger made just seven Premier League starts last season and is said to have already agreed personal terms with Spurs. Savinho missed City’s training session on Thursday due to illness, ahead of their Community Shield game against Arsenal on Sunday.
With Tottenham reportedly pursuing both Gakpo and Savinho, any Liverpool departure for Gakpo still appears tied to the club first bringing in a replacement.
