Osun Election: Adeleke Takes Unassailable Lead as 95% of Results Are In

With 95 percent of the results in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election already uploaded, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party has taken an unassailable lead, putting him ahead of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Olumide Oyebamiji.

The uploaded results, collated on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s viewing portal, show Adeleke defeating Oyebamiji despite a last-minute campaign blitz by ten APC governors who descended on Osun to rally support for the APC ticket. Their presence did little to alter the trajectory, as Adeleke continued to maintain a consistent lead.

In a symbolic indication of the APC’s struggles, two of its notable figures, Rauf Aregbesola and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, failed to win their respective polling units. Their losses in those voting areas added to the challenges facing Oyebamiji on election day.

Oyebamiji, the APC’s candidate, nonetheless acknowledged the enthusiasm of voters. He hailed the large turnout, describing it as a reflection of the people’s commitment to exercising their democratic right.

With only five percent of the results left to upload, attention now shifts to the final tally and the declaration of the official winner.

The remaining five percent of the results are still being collated, and the Independent National Electoral Commission is expected to declare a final winner once all units are accounted for.
