Notts and Durham Secure One-Day Cup Semi-Final Spots

In a thrilling conclusion to the group stages, Nottinghamshire and Durham have booked their places in the One-Day Cup semi-finals. Both teams secured impressive away wins, with Notts overcoming Yorkshire and Durham dominating Lancashire.

Nottinghamshire’s victory was a remarkable comeback, recovering from 55-4 to chase down Yorkshire’s 273-9 at Clifton Park. Centurions Jack Haynes and Kyle Verreynne shared a 154-run stand to transform the contest, ultimately winning by three wickets with eight balls to spare.

Durham’s David Bedingham-inspired 162-run win over Lancashire at Old Trafford earned the visitors their seventh successful passage to a List A semi-final. Bedingham hit a match-winning century, his fifth in all formats against Lancashire, as Durham posted a powerful 349-8 from their 50 overs.

Bedingham told BBC Radio Newcastle, ‘Credit to Ollie Robinson, he changed the game when he came in. I always thought 350 would be a tough chase. It put pressure on Lancashire. The bowlers were excellent and it was a fine all-round team effort.’ Lancs head coach Steven Croft added, ‘We were out-performed by Durham in all departments. The toss was pretty important but we probably took a couple of backward steps.’

Notts will now face an East Midlands derby in Sunday’s semi against Group A winners Leicestershire, while Durham will play Group B winners Middlesex at Radlett. Haynes, who was playing his first game since July due to injury, said, ‘It would obviously be nice to have a carrot of a home final, but we’ve got a big game ahead of us first on Sunday at Grace Road.’

With their semi-final spots secured, Nottinghamshire and Durham will look to build on their momentum and make a push for the One-Day Cup title. The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the competition, with both teams looking to make the most of their opportunities.
