Isco Double Helps Betis Hit Five as Milan Drop Points

AC Milan passed up the chance to close in on Serie A’s leading sides on Sunday, dropping points in a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo, while Real Betis climbed to third in La Liga after a 5-2 win over Osasuna. There was frustration too for Roma and Juventus in Italy, and a routine away success for Marseille in France.

Serie A

Milan were unable to make up ground on the teams above them after being held by Sassuolo. Adrien Rabiot put his side in front in the 63rd minute, finishing off a delightful pass from Luka Modric, but Cas Odenthal levelled five minutes later to claim a point for Sassuolo.

Roma kept their unbeaten start to the Serie A season going, although they had to dig in for a goalless draw with Como after being reduced to ten men. Donyell Malen was sent off in the 53rd minute, leaving his teammates to negotiate a testing second half, but goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini produced several important saves to protect the point.

Juventus also had to settle for a share of the spoils, drawing 1-1 with Cagliari. The visitors fought back after falling a goal behind, yet they could not find a winner and dropped two points on their travels.

La Liga

Real Betis moved up to third in La Liga courtesy of a 5-2 victory over Osasuna, with Isco scoring twice. Isco, Ez Abde and Diego Llorente all found the net as the hosts opened up a 3-0 lead, before Osasuna battled back to 3-2. Isco struck again to steady his side, and Jose Antonio Morante completed the scoring in stoppage time.

Ligue 1

In France, Marseille took all three points with a comfortable 2-0 win away to Troyes. A professional performance saw them see off their opponents and continue their push towards the top of the Ligue 1 table.

Milan and Juventus were left to reflect on points they let slip, Roma on a point earned the hard way, and Betis on an afternoon that brought five goals and a rise to third in Spain. Marseille, for their part, kept their momentum going with a solid evening’s work at Troyes.
