Week 5 of the NFL season delivered a Sunday full of late drama, blowouts and one tie. Jacksonville shocked Philadelphia in London on the final kick, New England routed Las Vegas, and Washington and the New York Giants could not be separated after overtime.
The day began at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where the Jaguars arrived at 3-1 after winning their previous two games. The Eagles, meanwhile, were trying to halt a two game slide that had left them at 2-2. Eight more games followed across the United States, including an NFC North meeting between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants against Washington Commanders.
Cam Little made the decisive play, kicking a 57 yard field goal with one second left as Jacksonville beat Philadelphia. The Eagles had seemed to secure the win when Jake Elliott converted a 48 yard field goal for a 17-16 lead with eight seconds remaining. But Ameer Abdullah returned the ensuing kickoff 53 yards, giving Little one last chance.
Trevor Lawrence passed for 331 yards and two touchdowns, both to Parker Washington. Washington finished with six catches for 124 yards.
Drake Maye delivered a five touchdown performance as New England dismantled Las Vegas for a second straight win. Maye completed 26 of 34 passes for 374 yards and four touchdowns, and he added another score on the ground as the Patriots totaled 536 yards of offense. DeMario Douglas caught two touchdown passes, while Hunter Henry and Kyle Williams also reached the end zone. New England led 21-7 at halftime and never looked back, though injuries to TreVeyon Henderson and Will Campbell were a concern.
Jordan Love threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns as Green Bay dominated its NFC North rival. Christian Watson caught both scoring passes and finished with 143 receiving yards, while MarShawn Lloyd added two rushing touchdowns as the Packers moved to 3-2. Chicago struggled without starting quarterback Caleb Williams. Replacement Tyson Bagent threw two interceptions before he was withdrawn in the fourth quarter.
Jaylen Warren powered Pittsburgh past Indianapolis with two spectacular touchdowns. The running back finished with 188 total yards and scored on an 80 yard reception and a 50 yard run, while Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes for a third consecutive game. Pat Freiermuth caught two of Rodgers’ scoring passes as the Steelers improved to 3-2. Indianapolis quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 267 yards, and kicker Spencer Shrader converted five field goals to match a franchise record.
Minnesota stayed perfect with a comfortable win over New Orleans, improving to 5-0. Kyler Murray threw for 229 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Justin Jefferson for a 15 yard score in the third quarter, while Aaron Jones rushed for 113 yards and another touchdown. The Vikings defense was just as strong, holding the Saints to 142 total yards and intercepting Tyler Shough twice. New Orleans briefly leveled at 13-13 on an 87 yard fumble return touchdown by Jonas Sanker, but Jones put Minnesota back in front early in the fourth quarter before Will Reichard sealed the result with a 55 yard field goal.
Cincinnati earned its third win of the season, defeating Miami 31-24 and handing the Dolphins a fifth straight loss. Joe Burrow helped the Bengals recover from an early Miami touchdown, with Samaje Perine among the scorers as Cincinnati improved to 3-2. Miami showed resistance after falling behind but could not complete a comeback, leaving the Dolphins winless at 0-5.
Houston finally broke through for its first victory, beating Tennessee in a matchup of two previously winless AFC South teams. C.J. Stroud completed 26 of 34 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown, and he also scored on a 2 yard run as the Texans improved to 1-4. Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked four first half field goals, while Will Anderson Jr. recorded three sacks as Houston’s defense limited Tennessee to three points. Titans quarterback Cam Ward managed only 170 passing yards as his team fell to 0-5.
Braelon Allen scored a crucial late touchdown as the New York Jets edged Cleveland in a tight contest. Allen rushed for 116 yards, including a 22 yard touchdown with just over three minutes left, after the Browns had briefly taken a 12-10 lead. Cleveland’s chances were damaged by a special teams mistake when a high snap sailed past punter Corey Bojorquez, allowing the Jets to recover the ball in excellent field position.
Washington and the New York Giants finished in a 27-27 tie after neither team could find a winner in overtime. The Commanders had appeared on course for victory after building a commanding lead, but the Giants fought back late in the fourth quarter to force an additional 10 minutes.
Sunday’s games ended with Jacksonville, New England, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Houston and the New York Jets victorious, while Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Chicago, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Miami, Tennessee and Cleveland lost. Washington and the New York Giants finished level after overtime.
