The Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles will meet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday for a Week 5 NFL game that carries plenty of intrigue. Philadelphia have lost two in a row after a promising start, while Jacksonville have already taken down the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals. The major question hanging over the Eagles is their growing injury list.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will host the Philadelphia Eagles at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, with the Week 5 NFL matchup taking place in London and forming part of Sunday Night Football.
Philadelphia arrive looking to respond after a narrow defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, while Jacksonville reached the English capital on the back of an impressive road win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Jaguars opened the season by beating the Cleveland Browns and have also defeated the New England Patriots and the Bengals, a run that has left them well placed in the AFC South.
For the Eagles, the past two weeks have been difficult. After winning their opening two games, Nick Sirianni’s team were beaten 27-7 by the Chicago Bears in Week 3 and then suffered a 24-20 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday.
Eagles injury concerns pile up
Injury problems are the biggest concern for Sirianni before Sunday’s game. Running back Saquon Barkley is dealing with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss out, while wide receiver DeVonta Smith is also unlikely to feature after sitting out the defeat to the Rams.
Hollywood Brown has been struggling with an ankle issue, and Dontayvion Wicks suffered a hamstring injury during the week, further reducing Jalen Hurts’ options in the passing game. Tight end Dallas Goedert has been limited in practice because of a knee problem, though he remains hopeful of being available.
The offensive line is another major concern. Drew Kendall has missed practice with a knee injury, while Fred Johnson has been limited. On defense, Jonathan Greenard, Marcus Epps, Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell have all been managing injuries, although cornerback Quinyon Mitchell returned to full practice on Thursday.
Jaguars aim to make London familiarity count
Jacksonville look well placed to continue their strong start against an Eagles side dealing with fitness issues. The Jaguars have been particularly solid defensively, and their ability to stop the run could prove important against a Philadelphia offense likely to be without Barkley.
Hurts remains capable of causing problems with his mobility, but the absence of several important receiving options and the changes along Philadelphia’s offensive line could make it hard for the Eagles to establish rhythm.
Jacksonville’s familiarity with playing in London provides another advantage, and the team should have enough quality on both sides of the ball to claim a third consecutive victory.
Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles 17-27 Jacksonville Jaguars.
