Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a gun buyback scheme for New South Wales, set to begin in November, in response to last year’s deadly shooting at a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.
The shooting killed 15 people. Under the program, people who surrender rifles and handguns will receive up to US$700 per firearm.
The scheme will operate in New South Wales, the state where the incident occurred. Additional details about the buyback process have not yet been disclosed.
The buyback scheme is scheduled to begin in November.
