The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has expressed confidence that Nigerians will vote out the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections, provided the polls are conducted freely and fairly.
The PRP chairman made this statement during an interview on DITV/Alheri Radio in Kaduna, where he discussed the upcoming elections and the strategies of opposition parties. Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the APC’s primary concern should be the Nigerian electorate, who possess the ultimate power to determine the outcome of elections.
According to him, the APC is aware that allowing citizens to freely choose their leaders would likely work against the party in 2027. He argued that political parties do not determine election outcomes, but rather the electorate decides which candidates and parties emerge victorious.
Opposition Strategy and Alliances
Baba-Ahmed also cautioned opposition politicians against forming alliances solely to remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu without having a clear plan for governing the country. He stated that the PRP would not support any politician merely based on their ambition to become president, but rather would examine their intentions and policies before agreeing to any arrangement.
The PRP chairman noted that any political coalition supported by the party must have a clear agenda for addressing Nigeria’s major challenges, such as insecurity, poverty, hunger, and the general suffering of citizens. He added that the party would carefully examine emerging political alliances ahead of 2027 to determine whether they are driven by genuine intentions or personal political ambitions.
The PRP chairman’s statement highlights the importance of free and fair elections in determining the outcome of the 2027 general elections. As the country approaches this critical period, it remains to be seen whether the APC will be able to maintain its hold on power or if Nigerians will choose a different path.
