The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers and dismantled their hideout in Dogon Pako village, Ikara Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday following information provided by a kidnap victim who escaped from captivity, alongside intelligence from members of the public.
According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the victim gave the police a detailed description of the house belonging to one Ja’e Samalu, 65, where he was allegedly held captive.
Hassan said the Divisional Police Officer, Ikara Division, subsequently mobilised police operatives, in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Service, to raid the house.
He said those arrested were Samalu; Abdul-Aziz Musa, 35, also known as “Kire”; Jafar Isah, 25; Yunusa Musa, 22; Shu’aibu Musa, 20; and Rakiya Samalu, 50.
The police spokesperson said Rakiya was alleged to be the mother of some of the suspects and caretaker of the kidnapped victim.
He added that the suspects were in police custody while investigation was ongoing to establish their individual roles and apprehend other members of the alleged criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Muhammad Rabiu, commended the police operatives and members of the public whose prompt information led to the operation.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest police formation.
Rabiu also warned residents to be wary of criminals using residential buildings as hideouts or holding facilities for kidnapped victims.
He stressed that community vigilance and timely sharing of information were critical to preventing and dismantling kidnapping networks.
