Ireland’s Kate O’Connor has won gold in the women’s heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships, completing a quickfire double after her Commonwealth Games triumph.
The victory comes just weeks after O’Connor won the same event at the Commonwealth Games.
Speaking after the final event of the competition, O’Connor said: “It was so up and down.”
The European title means O’Connor now holds heptathlon gold medals from both major championships.
The European gold adds to O’Connor’s growing list of achievements, following her Commonwealth Games success earlier in the season.
